Student Dining and Residential Programs Building
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Area: 140,000 square feet
Site & Program: The site for the new SDRP is the former location of two existing dining facilities. It is connected to Nugent Residence Hall and serves meals to 3,600 students, the largest segment of student housing on the campus. It also serves as a student gathering place.
Design: University policy dictated that this project be divided between a Design Architect and an Architect of Record. Nagle Hartray was selected as Architect of Record because the firm’s design experience would ease the transition in this unusual project delivery approach. This LEED Silver Certified building includes the Ikenberry Dining Hall which features seven food stations and seating for 1,200; a new two-story Learning Commons for group study; music practice rooms; a cardio fitness room; and various sizes of seminar/conference/classrooms with available catering services.
