Area: 60,000 square feet

Site & Program: The Athletic Field on the Francis W. Parker School campus is an important part of the overall curriculum of the school. The field is used daily for unstructured play, physical education activities, and competitive sports events such as soccer and field hockey.

Design: Renovation included replacing the natural grass field with an artificial turf field to provide a more uniform playing surface that will drain quickly, allowing for increased use;

re-grading the field and incorporating a new drainage system to meet the water detention requirements for the City of Chicago; providing new running track surfaces along the north and south edges of the field; repairing and painting existing concrete retaining walls and providing new chain-link fencing to replace the unsightly existing fencing; installing new landscaping materials in the parkways along Webster Avenue and Lincoln Park West; and providing a new 300 square foot storage and toilet room building at the northwest corner of the field.
